Dear friends,

You are invited to attend our annual family and young people mindfulness retreat to be held from Nov. 21 to Nov. 24, 2015 at Chin Swee Caves Temple, Genting Higland, Pahang. Families with children, young people and individuals are welcome to attend the retreat. The retreat has been the place for families to have open communication and their loving care expressed. Everyone has lots of fun along the way of transformation and healing. The parents and children enjoy just being themselves and being present for each other.

Parents and children will have separate as well as joint activities. The children, teens, young people and adults will be divided into groups according to their age: Children program: 6 to 12 years old, teen program: 13 to 16 years old, youths: 17 to 22 years old, and adults: 22 years old and up.  There are no separate programs for children under 6, and they have to be under full care of the parents.

The activities held in this family and young people retreat are similar to the ones offered in Plum Village France. We will learn and practice mindful breathing, mindful walking, and pleasant smiling; the foundation of the Plum Village tradition.  We will also practice deep listening and loving speech. By embodying these basic skills, we can offer our true presence to our loved ones, our children, and our parents.

In this retreat, we will study the Discourse on the Land of Great Happiness (Sukhavati-Vyuha Sutra, Taisho Revised Tripitaka 366*). We will learn how the practice of mindfulnes, will help us to realize the pureland right in this moment, and in this world.

“.....  Furthermore Shariputra, in this Buddha Land people can always hear the sound of heavenly music. The earth is made of pure gold. During the six periods of the day, flowers rain down multitudes of mandarava from the sky. In the morning the people of this land like to take flower baskets made of cloth and fill them with these wonderful flowers in order to make offerings to the Buddhas who live in countless other Buddha Lands. When it is time for the midday meal, everyone returns to Sukhavati and after eating does walking meditation. Shariputra, that is how extraordinarily beautiful Sukhavati is.

“Furthermore Shariputra, in Sukhavati you can always see different species of birds of many wonderful colors, like white cranes, peacocks, orioles, egrets, avalinkara, and jivanjva birds. These birds sing with harmonious, sweet sounds throughout the six periods of the day. In the song of the birds people can hear teachings on different Dharma doors such as the Five Faculties, the Five Powers, the Seven Factors of Awakening, and the Noble Eightfold Path. When the people of this land hear the teachings in the form of bird songs, their minds are in perfect concentration and they come back to practicing mindfulness of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.
