We have prepared some frequently asked questions and relevant information to help you prepare for the retreat and the days of mindfulness. Please take your time to read them. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q1: I am not a Buddhist but I’m interested in Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village teachings. Can I join the events?

A: In Malaysia, everyone, except Malaysian Muslim, can join events related to the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village. The master and his disciples teach the practiceof "Mindfulness" which helps us live happily in the present moment and be at peace with ourselves, ourfamilies, and the world.

Q2: Would Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh be present in these events?

A: No, all the programs would be lead by a delegation of Plum Village monastics, some, senior disciples of the Master.

Q3: I do not have any experience in meditation. Can I attend the Retreat or the Day of Mindfulness?

A: Yes, you can. The Plum Village teachers will guide you during the retreat and the day of mindfulness.

Q4: My kid is only 2 years old. Can I bring him along to the Retreat?

A: Yes, you can bring your kids even if they are only few months old. Parent/s bringing children below 6 years old are required to take care of them throughout the retreat. There will be parallel children, teen

and young adult programs in this retreat. The children, teens, young people and adults will be divided into groups according to their age: Children program: 6 to 12 years old, teen program: 13 – 16 years old, young adult: 17 – 22 years old, and adults: 22 years old and up.

Q5: How do I sign up for the activities?

A:Registration is available online at the Plum Village Asia Online Registration Website at on a first-come-first-served basis. Registrations are not final until we receive your payment. Please make payment within one week after you register. If payment is not received within one week, we will put your registration on the waiting list. For means of payment, please refer to the confirmation e-mail of the registration. You can either pay by check or by direct deposit.

Q6: I am non Malaysian citizen. Can I register for the events?

A: Yes, you can attend all the activities and pay the same registration fee.

Q7: How do I know whether I have been accepted for the events?

A: You will receive a confirmation e-mail directing you for payment.

Q8: Do you provide transportation to the venue of the activities?

A: No, sorry we are not able to provide transportation. We encourage you car pool with your friends.

Q9: Do I have to attend the full 4-Day Retreat?

A: In order to deepen your practice and make mindful living a vital part of your daily life, we request you stay and fully participate in all the 4 days.

Q10: Is there a dress code for the Retreat / Day of Mindfulness?

A: Wear simple, loose and comfortable clothing suitable for meditation. Please avoid tight, transparent, revealing, or otherwise striking clothing (such as shorts, short skirts, tights and leggings, sleeveless or skimpy tops) and do not use cosmetics, perfumes or colognes. Do not bring jewelry and other valuable items.

Q11: Do I need to bring my own cushion?

A: Cushions for sitting meditation are provided in the Retreat and Day of Mindfulness (DOM). You may like to bring along a yoga mat/ towel for the Total Relaxation session.

Q12: What about meals?

A: Vegetarian food will be served in all the meals during the Retreat and the Dayof Mindfulness.

Q13: What type of accommodation do you provide?

A: All participants will stay in budget hotel type rooms. All rooms are adult twin or triplesharing. There may be some other people sharing the room with you.

Q14: Is there any reason why the organizer chose a temple/resort as the venue for the 4-Day Retreat?

A: A temple/resort is selected because the Plum Village's Sangha prefer the organizing committee members take part in the practice and not be too occupied with the chores of running the retreat.

Q15: Can I choose my roommates for the stay in the resort?

A: We will try to assign rooming as requested but space and other logistical restrictionswill be taken into considerations.

Q16: Would my children be staying with me?

A: The younger children will stay with their parents whereas the older ones may have to stay in separate rooms depending on the number of people in the family.

Q17: What if a single parent and a child register for the retreat?

A: No problem. You pay for an adult fee and a children fee. But, there may be a third person sharing room with you.

Q18: What about single occupancy?

A: You are required to pay double fee.

Q19: Can I use the hotel services available?

A: The fee only covers accommodation and meals at specified times. Drinking water is provided outside the rooms and meditation hall. Any other services that you request from the hotel are on your own expenses.

Q19: Do I have to bring my own towel and toiletries?

A: Yes, please do.

Q20: Can I bring my pets or electronic games to the retreat and the day of mindfulness?

A: No, sorry you can’t. We would like you to have some peace and quiet during these times so that you can fully benefit from the practice.

Q21: How about hand phones?

A: You are advised to use your hand phones discreetly and only if it’s very important so as not to disturb the other participants.

Q22: What language is used to conduct the activities? Would it be translated?

A: All the activities will be conducted in English. No, sorry there would not be any translation, but we can try to find participants who can translate to you personally.

Q23: What are the programs for the 4-Day Retreat and the Day of Mindfulness?

A: Please see attachment below.

Q24: Can I see the teachers for personal consultation?

A: Yes, you can. A time for consultation is scheduled in the program. You can approachthe teachers assigned to your Dharma Discussion group to make an appointment.

Q25: What is the age limit of admission for the Wake Up Day of Mindfulness?

A: The Wake Up DOM is for young people between the age of 18-35 years.

Q26: I am not familiar with the location of the venues of the two events. Can you help?

Important Information for the 4-Day Retreat


*Please proceed to the respective registration counters upon arrival.
* Registration and room check-in is from 3.00PM to 5.00PM at the Lobby located at Level 12.

1. A room/house mates list is given to each family/person sharing the room.

2. Please wait for the arrival of all your room mates to check-in together.

3. The official time to handover the key to you is when you register at the counter, but because it’s a holiday season and that the management is busy, we ask for your patience on the event of any delay.

4. The hotel does not provide towel and toiletries, so please bring your own.

5. Please contact any member of the secretariat if you require further assistance. As the member of the organizing team is also participating in the retreat, we apologize if we could not attend to you immediately.

6. Lock the room door and keep the key with you. Lost keys incur a RM50 charge by the management.

Retreat Preparation

Bring along the followings:
~ Sufficient clothing for your entire stay in the retreat.
~ Light jacket and a small backpack (knapsack) are also useful.
~ Water tumbler (drinking water is provided outside the room).
~ Slipper/ slip-on shoes (to be easily removed when entering meditation halls), and socks.
~ Personal medication and other personal items.
~ Yoga mat for Deep Relaxation. Meditation cushion will be provided.


Important Information for the Wake Up Days of Mindfulness


Please proceed to the registration counter upon arrival. You are advised to arrive before 8.30AM. Registration is from 8.00AM onwards.

Day of Mindfulness Preparation

~Bring along a light jacket to keep warm.

~Bring sufficient clothing, toiletries and towel for the overnight stay (Wake Up DOM only).

~Meditation cushion will be provided. (You may like to bring along a yoga mat/ towel for use when you                       need to lie down for Total Relaxation.)


General Notice

Emergency contact person
During registration, please provide us the name and telephone number of a close relative or friend whom we can notify in case of an emergency. You can also include your doctor’s contact on the same space provided.

Liability waiver
While we of the organizer will try our best to ensure your stay with us is incident-free, you will absolve us from all liability in the event of any injuries or illness while participating in the events.

Should you be unable to attend, a substitute delegate is welcome at no extra charge. However, cancellations without substitute delegates would not be entertained, and the registration fee paid would be forfeited.
