About the Plum Village Asia-Pacific Website

This website serves as an information resource for and about mindfulness practice communities in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh in the Asia - Pacific region. Besides teaching trips made frequently in the USA and in Europe since the early 1980s,  Thay (a term commonly used by his students to refer to Thich Nhat Hanh) has also gone on quite a few teaching trips to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia (in the 1980s), Japan (1995), China (1999, 2001 and 2002), Taiwan, Hong Kong (2001, 2002 and 2007), Thailand (2007), and  Vietnam (2005, 2007 and 2008). Many practitioners form this region, after attending retreats conducted by Thay, have established mindfulness practice communities to continue their practices.

In the past several years,  especially after the first Vietnam trip in 2005, there have been increasing interests in the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and in the practices of the Plum Village tradition. These practitioners (in the Asia-Pacific regions)  found out that Thay's teachings in the West also applied to them in the East. They have found a relevant Buddhist practice that can help them cope with difficulties in life and help them transform their sufferings into joy and happiness. To help lay communities in the practices and to help spread the teachings, monastic disciples of Thich Nhat Hanh have held regular retreats and public talks in the region, especially in Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam.

We hope that this website can be of helpful to you, in finding information about the practices, activities, and  the Plum Village practice communities in the Asia-Pacific region.
